( Story Behind the Name )

The Star of the South, a 128.48-carat diamond discovered in Brazil in 1853, was the first Brazilian gem to earn worldwide fame.

Purchased by Halphen & Associates of Paris and showcased at major European exhibitions, it later caught the eye of Maharaja Khanderao Gaekwad of Baroda, who acquired it around 1868 for £80,000.

He set it in a magnificent necklace alongside the English Dresden and Akbarshahi diamonds, forever securing its place in Baroda’s royal legacy.
